my bumming days are over

I have finally found a job.

I have finally ended my days of being a bum.

The final few weeks of bumming was particularly eventful, being a somewhat prized commodity between 2 prolific American MNCs, each bidding me to join them. Both offered equally challenging job and wage, but I eventually settled for the one nearer to home (the other calling was to be in Petaling Jaya, which I have my reservations about).

Anyway, the whole experience was an eye opener for me – for I have never ever been unemployed before. I finally got a taste of what it felt like sitting at home with nothing to do, and kinda understand why old retired people are so fucking loco. Being idle makes one depressed and loco. It’s not fun at all.

The most fucked up thing about the bumming was not the sitting at home part though. It was the interviews. Not that I’m nervous or anything like that but, I kinda disliked the idea of having to meet people I do not know, and for them to have me judged like I’m some prostitute desperately wanting to join their self professed prestigious chicken coop (yes, they do that to interviewees). Motherfucking hell.

Now I’m just glad that it’s finally over. I just can’t stand the thought of meeting more of these condescending morons who think they have this imaginary giant dick that shoots through the roof.

Congratulations! I’m glad u found a job so soon. It is very stressful to be jobless and have family responsibility at the same time. I experienced that. Now I’m an old retired loco, hahaha… But I’m financially secured, hv no more family responsibility, and dun hv to get up every morning at the ring of the fucking alarm clock which I thrown into the dust bin first day of my retiring. I am now a very happy man enjoying what I want and can do with my remaining life. Definitely not depressed or loco… Cheers!

Bumming & sulking at home? then you should have blogged more instead :P

    Congrats anyway…

  11. michaelooi says:

Anna – Come on man, you know I can’t reveal that info lar.

Thomas – Good to hear that. I guess you’re one of the very few who actually enjoyed their retirement and live a more fulfilled life. Most would just get insecure at first, followed by an extreme case of worthlessness, and then before long, the guy’s gonna talk to a telephone pole. Man I hope I can be like you when I retire…

dragonfly – Ermm, not exactly all the time. I have been going out, a lot.

  12. mott says:

    Congrats! No more swatting flies!

  13. Caroline says:

Congrats Mike! Glad to know you’ve chosen the one closer to home. The one here would’ve been great too, but well hectic. =D

  14. doc2mee says:

Bravo! Your job seeking journey made me feel queasy about stepping out of my comfort zone / company although it ain’t the best for me ;(

  21. Seremban engineer says:

    Congratulation !!!!
    What is the title?
How much different the salary compared to last earned salary? (percentage)

  22. michaelooi says:

Guan – I know that feeling. But know that you have to face the possibility of losing your comfortable job someday. Right now, what you can do is to make yourself relevant by learning something tangible from your work, and hopefully, it’ll make things easier when the time comes.

Seremban engineer – Same title as my previous job. Increment’s close to 12% (considered ok lah at times like this. Average annual increment in my line of work is about 3%… that 12% jump is roughly equivalent to a few years’ work already)

  23. Wilson C says:

    Hey Michael, Congrats!!!
I am really happy for you and do keep in touch!
I felt sorry for unable to assist (looking at the fucking economy in Penang), but your experience and determination has earned you a good job!

  24. michaelooi says:

Wilson – Don’t sweat about it, Wilson. :)

  25. KC says:

Time to pop a bubbly! Congrats man!
Do you want to go through the whole bumming thing again? Think not! Now that you’ve traded your time for money, have you a Plan B?
    Cheers Mike.

  26. Kevin says:

    Congrats :)

  27. Karen says:

Congratulations! I do agree about the application forms, its just a tool to waste time and for the interviewer to get ready their mind boggling questions. What’s the point on submitting the resume if we’re just going to have to write everything out again? Bah for them.

  28. Romuluz says:

Congrats bro. Seagate HDD is always better than WD’s.

  29. michaelooi says:

Romuluz – I disagree. In my world, Seagate HDD is NOT ALWAYS better than WD’s.

  30. Romuluz says:

Bro, well you are now in the position to change that. All the best lah !

  31. michaelooi says:

Romuluz – No I did not join Seagate. There.

  32. bongkersz says:
