are we actually rich or poor?

Caught this in the news today

Malaysia donates RM3.14mil to Pakistan

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia is donating US$1mil (RM3.14mil) to Pakistan to help the country which has been hit by massive floods since July 22.

Foreign Ministry in a statement said the humanitarian aid was a manifestation of Malaysia’s sympathy and empathy towards the Pakistani government and people who had suffered the loss of lives and damage to major infrastructure and property in the floods.

“We hope the humanitarian aid can help ease the pain suffered by the flood victims.

“This is the worst flood Pakistan has experienced in 80 years. It has claimed about 1,600 lives, while almost one million have lost their homes.

“The lives of about 3.5 million people in several areas including Punjab, Balochistan, Gilgit Baltistan and Kyber Pakhtunkhwa have been affected because of this disaster,” the statement said.

The money would be delivered as soon as possible to Pakistan, which was also received aid from other countries and agencies such as the United Nations.

Malaysia donates to Pakistan, after a round of subsidy cuts. While 3.14 million may not be much (I wonder how they come up with that number…), but it paints a false impression that we’re very well off to give away money like that. It’s like a manager sees his employee buy a brand new car after having heard the fella complaining about being underpaid. False impression.

Hello!? Depa ada sendiri mia nuclear weapon! What makes you think Pakistan can’t afford a measly few million bucks to aid its own people??

as what i heard from my reporter fren,at my place for instance, a contractor tender a flyover project for 2.6 million…. n 10% out of the expenses will go to minister’s pocket…… so, do u think malaysia is rich or poor…. i believe yes n no….. No because most money were gone to pockets of those arse-minister…….. n yes because they r wasting alot of money showing the world how well they develop as a developing country…. speaking of becoming the best among the worst huh??? as wat the malay said ‘SOMBONG BODOH’ lo….

  3. michaelooi says:

chuan – That’s the point. All I ask is to at least have that decency to be convincing when they say ‘our nation is doomed if we do not save’…

cindy – It’s actually easier to get pocket money when it involves Pakistan, because Pakistan is one corrupted country full of dickheads. Do you know that the rich there NEVER pay taxes, but the poors do? Don’t believe me? Read this article from NYT (I came across this article a few weeks ago). So most likely, the 3.14 million of OUR tax money will go into many greedy assholes’ pockets before it even reaches the flood victims (if it even reaches at all).

Malaysia is both rich and poor at the same time, rich in natural resources, poor in mentality.

Corruption destroys all good things, but sadly is a required part of operations until a country becomes ‘developed’.

  8. Seremban Engineer says:

I do not want to be rude, but….chee bye………just because Pakistan is muslim country.

  9. cheehan says:

“a manifestation of Malaysia‚Äôs sympathy and empathy towards the Pakistani government and people” – has the government showed the same towards the rakyat’s sufferings at home? Just mind ur mind business first lahhh…

  10. michaelooi says:

It should read – “a manifestation of A BUNCH OF SELECTED MALAYSIAN POLITICIAN’S sympathy…”.

  11. cindy says:
