Woody - I disagree with you on 2 things. First, 'state of our nurse' quality. I have nothing against the profession as a whole. So, that's totally your opinion to think that 'our nurse' (whatever that means) sux.

Secondly, hold 30 sec - 1 min? As I said, that thing dispenses mist in a finite/constant manner (1 ampoule). The session would have been over in less than 5 mins. Hold 30 sec? She would only get to whiff in 6 - 8 times max, >60% of the med would have been wasted. It's all common sense. (I've been using this nebulizer shit many times before. This is not new to me either. The most effective way to use it is breathe normally.)

And by the way, my kid's not scared of no mouthpiece and she's not upset in anyway. She was actually laughing and joking with us (that's why I had to hush her down). I don't see the need for that nurse to calm my kid when she's already calm (so much for that psychological bullshit). And how do you explain the 'being able to inhale while talking' part? 2 words - she's stupid. (One thing I did not mention - she also forgot to tighten the canister resulting a spill. The session was over in half the time - the med was wasted anyway... that fucking nurse)

Mike,

I kind of agree with you about the state of our nurse quality, knowing some of them had to do the job due to lack of qualification, or as last resort to no job. That in some way not making them liking the job, but rather had to put up with the job. In fact, I thought nurse has a rather noble job, risking their lives in the front line from time to time fighting deadly diseases.

On the use of nebulizer, I have a slightly different thought.

The proper way of using ventolin or steroid based with mist delivered medication , would have been breath in and hold for a brief while.

I used ventolin before, most effective way is breath in and hold 30 sec~1 min, another way would have taken deeper breath of air, cyclical (thus encouraging intake of the mist).

Some kids may get scared by the mouth piece coupled with the noisy machine, she (the nurse ) probably felt that way, and instead is to ask the kid to behave as normal (talkative as usual) , or even sing (singing increases air uptake) , I know probably you missed the psychological part of it. In fact, sometime, it is good to trick the kid into behaving as pilot driving a plane (happily).. when they are happy, it boosts the body resistance & immune system.

Hope your Regine gets better.. have a nice weekend..

Kinda reminds me of when my sister n her husband to be had to go to a govt. clinic to get the compulsory AIDS test done before they got married. The fucking nurse had blood on her gloves n when my sister asked her (very nicely!) to change the gloves, she just gave a tulan kinda face n mumbled "Banyak songeh la minah keling ni!", then just grabbed my sister's hand and took the blood sample!

This is what happens when you allow uneducated kampung fuckers to get jobs that should be reserved for educated people.

You breathe more or less the same amount of air when you talk more. You'd just draw in more air to catch up when you finish talking. But because the nebulizer lets out the med in a constant volume and with finite amount, depending on the timing, you might miss out the last few whiffs... if you get what I mean. That's why I asked Regine not to talk when she's suppose to inhale her med. She can talk all she wants after that.

Maybe what happens is that when they talk more then breathe more, but the fucker shouldn't have overridden your authority. Go lodge a complain and get her sorry ass fired.

Not like you getting Regine to stop talking would be life threatening.
