Valentine’s Day ‘haram in Islam’
JOHOR BARU: The state Religious Department yesterday reminded Muslims here that Valentine’s Day was haram in Islam. The fatwa had been declared in 2005, but the warning, said Mufti Datuk M. Tahrir Samsudin, was the department’s yearly reminder to Muslims not to engage in un-Islamic activities. He said such celebrations “involved elements of vice” and violated Islamic tenets and values. He said the Christian elements found in the celebration also did not correspond with Islamic practices.
‘Involved elements of vice’. I wonder what is so ‘vice’ about showering your loved ones with gifts and attention… Stupid maybe but, ‘vice’? If the Mufti was referring to the sex after meal/gift, haven’t they already outlawed Muslims from having sex out of wedlock? And in the case of a married Muslim couple, where sex is permitted, how ‘vice’ is the couple gonna get? Kind of defies logical sense, isn’t it? Yeah right, like we rape farm animals and act like hantu pocong on Valentine’s Day… ffftttt… what a sad human being.

IMHO, during this tense and trying time in this country, it is not prudent to interfere with others cultural or religious practice unless he is directly concerned or affected.
I fear this country is moving towards a very unhealthy direction.
All of us need to sit back and understand what is most important. I strongly believe that understanding and accepting other cultures and religious belief is essential to the well being of Malaysians in near future.
Fight about political ideology as much as we want, but please keep culture and religion aside.
If you think some culture or religion follower must change, let them do it themselves. That is evolution.
Royal France fell because its people wanted a change and they achieved what they were fighting for.
Afganistan and Iraq fell because someone else wanted them to change. Look what is happening now.

but publicly announcing and claiming the celebration of another religion contains element of vice is very uncalled for…

Then why is it that bookshops around Masjidil Haraam (which houses the Kaabah) and Masjid Nabawi (Prophet’s mosque) in Saudi Arabia (the mosques are 1st and 2nd holiest sites for Muslims) all sell Valentine’s Day cards in Arabic? I saw them myself when I was there 2 years ago!

the religious dept in malaysia is so shallow. i doubt they even do a proper research before coming out with these fatwas. previously it was yoga, which i think is a form of exercise and nothing wrong for muslims to practise as long as they don’t do the chanting/mantra. and now this, associating vice activities with v-day, as if vice only happens on 14th february. lol

The fatwa is for the Muslims, which I don’t give a crap (because I am not a Muslim). The quoted phrase above, is clearly a condemnation of Valentine’s Day as a whole. Which involves everyone who is in and out of the Muslim circle. So, retards, bacalah buku lebih sikit, sebelum nak mencarut macam orang tak bertamadun.
