I was loitering around Carrefour during my office lunchtime on Friday… seeking for the meaning of life when I saw something at a corner of the alfresco section of the complex. It was a Proton Savvy – the latest model released by our infamous national carmaker which I have yet to check out. Apparently, there was somekind of promotion/exhibition shit going right there and I could see an asylum of annoying people flocking around that automobile; knocking and copping a feel on it despite the fact that they have absolutely no intention of purchasing it. Bunch of inconsiderate bums.
And because I still had plenty of time left, I decided to walk over to check out the car; knocking and copping a feel on it despite the fact that I have absolutely no intention of purchasing it.
What can I say … it’s disappointing. The first thing that dumbfucked me was the engine compartment (or whatever you call that under the hood). I couldn’t help but notice that the finishing of the engine cover and the aircon unit next to it, was very dull and crude. It looked like the work of some kindergarten kids with cans of low quality aerosol paints. Well, maybe the rest of the car could be better, I then thought, and so I moved on to the next part of the car – the interior.
At the first glance, the interior reminded me a lot of Proton Saga. Cheap plastics everywhere. But at a closer inspection, I realized that I was wrong. It’s actually much worse than that. The plastics reminded me of those low quality pirated DVD cover that has an awful smell. And that big hole above the glove compartment wasn’t at all impressive. It’s really hard to explain but, it’s unbelievable that this piece of crap is being sold for over RM40 grands ! What a rip off !
A little stroll towards the back portion of the vehicle reaped no good impression either.
- The space at the rear passenger seat was like of a plane’s economy class – you’ll pretty much get more frustration than a round of good sex if you ever decided to get adventurous inside this car.
- The trunk was unbelievably small. You can’t even store half of your mother-in-law in it. Well, unless your mother-in-law’s a midget, you’ll probably have to strap her on top of your vehicle roof if there ever is a need for you to discard your MIL’s body after killing her.
Savvy ? An illusion perhaps. To me, this is just another addition to the collection of junks under Proton’s brand. If you were to ask me, I’d say spend that RM40,000 on a used Japanese car. Or a really nice brand new bike.
*I know nothing technical under that hood. This review was made based on my gutfeel as a driver (and owner) of a Japanese car for more than 10 years. Certainly, a little tinge of quality know-hows helped a lot to differentiate what is a junk and what is not.

I’d rather get a Myvi for the price. Perodua build quality is so much better than Proton.
Japanese cars roxx!. Well, M’sia is stil a long way behind Japan can’t expect much.
Which Japanese car do you drive anyways?
coppersnare – Yeah, it’s definitely better than Savvy, although not really good in my opinion. But for that kind of price, I ought to be put to sleep for complaining.
ZerO – I used to drive a manual Honda City. But now, I drive this – http://batmanytb.com/movies/batmanbegins/pics/bb11.jpg
hahah Batmobile. Nice car. :p
Heard from some birds that not much order on Savvy. It seems like people’s trauma on proton’s car is forever there.
sad case for proton…
never grow up…
may god bless proton
its still using SOHC. who the hell uses SOHC nowadays?!
I’ve been reading ur much previous blog lately,
My evaluation:
65% -Surprisingly interesting
25% -Fairly interesting
6% – Ok only interes ..t…n….
4% – …zz….zzz…..zz….z…
You bombard ppl in the most hardcore level, cun!
Savvy…
If you have watched some TV lately there are ad on a HUGE-just-woke-up monster tearing town apart and in the AD the Savvy was SAFE. I think the ad is trying to send a message that Savvy are stronger compared to the previous CAN-version.
Oh and I just got some info from my teacher that there are 2 types of car for PROTON. One is for local buyers and one to export into other countries. The gap of these 2 cars are VERY FAR. If you’re buying any local car, be sure to order the RIGHT ONE. ;)
surfnux – Eh, what is it with the bird bird thing aa ? Frankly speaking, if I wanted to know something, the last thing I’ll ever ask is my own bird. Or someone’s.
zbjernak – God bless Proton ? Why would he want to do that ?
elphine – Even if that junk uses a twin turbocharger, it will still be a major turn off.
mikki – Wah, rate my blog summore aa ? Some people think my blog 100% sux so, this is kinda subjective bebeh. But thanks for the high rating anyway.
ken – Your teacher was right.
I thought u wanted ur silent reader to rate ur explicit blog… :P
if u guys r fucking rich, then go for better car but if u don’t…
not all malaysian r rich!!!
the price, i think suit with the quality and even cheap for a car with TUV approval..!!
myvi only approve by Peordua ma…
myvi just better designed than savvy but performance, quality and safety i dont think so…!!
their using that fucking old kelisa n kembara engine..!!
their using old tech and systems man..!!
THINK malaysian!!!
yao – What’s the difference with TUV or whatever fuck approval ? The car’s ugly & expensive. Period.
And in case you believed that retarded advertisement, well… don’t. That’s because you’re gonna fucking die anyway hitting a tree or a garbage truck. TUV or not.
air intake macam muncung vacum cleaner…
yelah…for that price better go for Myvi…engine pun engine toyota…
I drive a 12 years old Proto Saga with Magma engine (proudly). I had an accident recently with a relatively new Wira. Guess what, he had a dent the size of king kong’s paw and I get away with a paint on my bumper ;) If you ask me to buy Proton Saga now, I would ask you to fuck off but I would never trade my old proton even for RM 40k. Who would buy a MYVVI or SAVVY or whatever V for RM 10k let alone RM 40k now???
elphinstone: DOHC is not necessarily better than a SOHC.
savvy car is much beter and your rewieu is fucking bad
apomputeh – Myvi ? Not a fair match. A made-in-china motorcycle perhaps.
m@ri – And you’re the king of the road with that heap ! Hahah !
lion – Hmmppfff… yeah. A “savvy car” is definitely much “beter” and my … excuse me… “rewieu” is fucking bad ? Get some education, moron.
TUV or whatever V i will not buy this piece of junk, i’ve been driving a swedish car for the past ten bloody years although the car would not fetch a good price if i were to sell it now i won’t trade it with either savvy or myvi not even with other japanese cars….
i think theres only 1 word can describe the savvy.. “SUCKS!”
wat tanjung malim, wat jet fighter element, wat 3 times tougher than wira.. all these are ridiculous!
lets say the gen-2 first, the car looks not bad in the design BUT the rear seats SUCKS! i wonder how the tall guys will squeeze themselves into the back seat.
then when proton launches the savvy, everything looks ok at first.. the front, the rims, the dashboard UNTIL i saw its rear.. oh my GOD! tats savvy? to me, it seems to be a very very low standard looking car.. juz look like its only available in poor countries only. the rear really sucks! besides that, theres only 3 colors.. is proton really ‘out of colors’ recently?
i really hope proton can launch a better car in future.. coz even the perodua oso can make a car(myvi) better than the savvy..
the myvi is better than the savvy
for one a few thousand more u get a bigger boot space, an electronic window for rear passengers and you can pretend your car is toyota whenyou open the and close the door. Saw a myvi on the road and it look really stable but you know the kembara engine is the setback.
the savvy, brought my friend from kampung and he notice the bad door was again faulty.
also we notice the myvi armour is thicker compared to the savvy
the AD , l thought the monster but the savvy up in his ass.
i’ve been working with proton dealer before. well. savvy is something that i feel ashmed to sell to my customer. still using the old sohc technology (dohc is far much better than sohc, if not, then why the hell engineers come out with create dohc engine?) and not forget, if anyone wants to fill the savvy radiator, they have to mix a propotion of coolant and distill water!!!, what a fucking mess!!! lousy savvyyyyy!!
fuck u all…….bitchy bitch…..go fuck urself…fucking hell…u all just suck….go fuck ur motherfucker in law!
thesalesman – Thanks for the info pal…
shaiful – Awwwwww… how sad. You must have paid the deposit for a Proton Savvy. Why are you so fucking stupid ? Now you can choose to cancel your car, or live with that fucking piece of disaster for the rest of your miserable life.
l saw so many myvi on the road with almost no sign of savvy. l say the force is strong with myvi whether proton ceo or saleman like it or not.
my storm troopers have placed bookings on the myvi as it has automatic. never like the manual anyway.
off course they tell you they are going to release a so called first of its kind auto + manual renault gear box but bear in mind, they also told us they were going to release a 1.8 gen 2 with airbags abs but then nothing happen
l guess the deal went bad when mitsubishi pulled out of proton as the campro is really a disguise to fool the public when it was actually another mitsubishi engine in disguise
there was a slump in the rate of engine production for gen 2 when mitsubishi pulled out.
what a coincidence when savvy has no campro
the excuse were initially, campro wont fit into savvy as savvy too small. dont make me a fool, isnt it obvious when you design the car and engine they wont fit, then today the new reason, technically incompatible. what the f? can you be more specific, you mean the body cant take the engine’s sheer power or the engine cant handle the savvy “new armour”
trust the force, go for myvi if you want to get your money’s worth
that was insightful, my lord …
first of all, TUV didnt approved SAvvy, as far as i understand, TUV was involved in auditing the components suppliers to potong and to help classification of the component suppliers with Class A,B,C.
anyway, it is true tat not all malaysians can afford even a sub 40k car but i think potong might be promoting savvy with a wrong concept. First, since that ppl are sceptical about the Tiara, then it should not market savvy as a TRM.
just market it as a new car from potong.
Anyway, whether the sales or the quality is good not and how defensive u can be on savvy’s quality, the general public or consumers will decide.
okie, now on some remarks i heard from my friends who went to showroom and themselves owning potongs and still driving them till now. “Teruk” and ‘bad workmanship” are the most common i heard.
i saw one before and i got turned off just by listening to how flimsy the sound of the door when it was closed hard. at 40k ++, it is not going to be better off then waja and g-2 in terms of quality.
personally, i laughed at how ridiculous is the ads in tv and radio. promoting the max speed of 170kph is like encouraging ppl to try it at 170kph.
the tuv is really suspicios salesman ship.
l would only trust my own ears and eyes.
l feel they probably ask tuv to certify the aircon and claim the whole car is certified tuv.
any way, one thing l learn is that even in western country standard as we are always told are not applicable to our malaysian standard, so why trust tuv
and nowadays so many western things are also just as unreliable, l am no longer fooled by white man’s reassurance,
l have seen british man cheating people or aussie lying that they are innocent
l cant trust tuv.
if any one have ever drive a savvy. whay are you so stupid. i have a savvy . the interior of car is very impresive. renault clio is the best selling model in evrope and sohc renault engine is beter than mvyi.
all in this forum are idiots
king of the road – let’s see who’s the idiot.
1) you have a savvy and we think savvy sucks. (idiot = you)
2) you think cheap plastics are good and you don’t even know how to spell impressive to describe your thrill… (idiot = you)
3) You think Savvy rawks because Renault Clio is the best seller in “evrope”. I think you’re an idiot … so … idiot = you.
4) This is not a forum. This is a motherfucking BLOG. Know what’s a blog dumbass ? (idiot = you)
No wonder you bought that garbage Savvy. It suits your character.
For those who have bought Savvy. Good luck to you all.
this is a blog and whatever michael thinks, he has the rights. at least he is not racist.
the plastic quality feels like iswara! at the show room, i found that the foldable back seats are flawed. Heck! is even worst then the iswara. It is funny that the saleman took about 5mins to fold it. Oh and after you have folded it, the front seats have to be an awkward L position.
for michaelooi
i dont have a savvy and i come from evrope-slovenia
i have a proton wira aeroback 1.5 2000 model. the power windov still runing nothing wrong with car
why are you so engry to proton. how many workers will have been in the streets if proton die. proton cars is improwing. they have tuv and iso 9001 standrd. here in slovenia are proton cars very reliable and 7500 cars been sold. the country have two milion population. big demage because proton dont introduce any more. soory because my english are poorly
talking about cars remind me of Gen 2 and Genting incident. i was going up Genting when i saw a Gen 2 at the side of the road. well, smoke came out from the front engine of the car. there were 2 men standing there wearing Proton t-shirts. so i assumed that they were actually testing the power of the car as in whether Gen 2 can go up Genting or not. unfortunately Gen 2 was not able to climb up to Genting n even more unfortunate was that
Gen 2 cars were already launched and released to the publics before that.
what got into the mind of those people at proton?? they launched a car and starting to sell to people when that car can’t even go up Genting safely without bursting the engine??
and what are those QC ppl at proton doing???
p/s: i smiled at those 2 proton t-shirt men and gave them a thumb-up =p
Savvy is a Tiara generation, Tiara tu tak laku kan. Savvy is a generation of tak laku ma.
If i knocked my Savvy I’m sure I’ll get a new one ma. Guranteed what.
i’ve HAD (noted the past tense) a Tiara once and it was a totally nightmare, the greatest SIN ever to buy it.
wat makes PROTON think that this replacement model, the so-called Savvy (my dad refers to it as Sawy, ahaha!) can be successful?what is it to an engine if the body is like tin Milo?
this Sawy thing is juz a waste of good tax payer money on PROTON’s so-called R&D?!
p/s:i dun mind my comments to be made public.ahaha!
Dude, my stooopid uncle just receive his brand-new 2005 black Proton Savvy, and.. OMG!!! the car’s engine so f*ckin’ noisy!! i was shock! as this is brand new car, its the teppet sound tetetete… holy crap! plus the fan sounds like an old Mercedez Benz fan.. why on earth ppl wanna buy this crap? we took a ride from Kepong to Shah Alam via NKVE.. the ride sucks.. its just irritating to hear the loud f*ckin noise under the hood…tetetet all the way..
perodua myvi sales : 40 000 till date , exceeded kancil as best sale
proton savvy, keep emphasizing tuv certified, sure so did some emphasize iso 2000 , any dfference?
sales 3000 , 60 % for automatic
dream on mates, when they release gen 2, they said the premium gen 2 with 1.8 campro will be out later and we are still waiting,
proton savvy supporters , pity yourself, go buy myvi
savvy , a car only proton salesman or ceo would like
savvy , only , a proton salesman pretending to be a foreigner would like,
slovenia, l dare u to show me u got computer access, u are probably a stupid proton salesman who is about to get sacked , ha hahhaahahahhahaha
proton you are hopeless, you even lost to perodua who started later.
what next, increase excise duty to kill perodua, this l must see.
notice how the proton salesman lied
he said he had a savvy
then he go and pretend to be a person from slovenia and he drives a wira
well, l am not stupid
king, your english is like malaysian kampung rude english
It’s just a matter of opinion and tastes that separates people’s preference for cars.
I booked a Savvy and will be waiting for it hopefully by mid or end of August 05. Why i went for the Savvy instead of the Myvi, well i like the exterior design of the car as well as the driver siting position which in my opinion is much more comfortable than Myvi. Overall its a commendable effort from Proton as the fit and finish is very good. I test driven the car before i booked it and i am very please with the NVH and the ride and handling. It’s decent for a sub compact car. People have been saying that the spare parts and consumables is expensive and have long waiting period, but to me that’s just part and parcel of owing a car. Remember a car is a liability and not an asset. The value of the car will depreciate and not go up as would a house.
khim foh – good for you. Like you said, it’s a matter of individual opinion… I don’t see why you’ll need to explain it here if you really think Savvy rocks. Just go ahead and enjoy the ride with your new Savvy …
proton lovers , wake up, you can protect proton
nobody is buying savvy until the they have to come up with this promo RM 350 /month
can u believe it, proton actually considering our pockets being burnt badly by house car loan and petrol and also unable to affect becos so call protection and expensive foriegn car, just for pride
look at thailand, china, making billions because of foreign investment and then now invadin g our market, l wont be surprise when thai come up with their national car and ovwer take proton in 10 years
well proton lovers, your CEO is fired , what can u say now? give him another chance?
your ceo is fired becos his savvy sales are so low that the super factory cant produce any savvy to meet the cost and they have to lower the monthly instalment to a record low 350/month and stll they are squashed by a myvi
today l saw a myvi, modified , black , v nice and it beat my stupid perdana in pick up , can u believe that
b4 tis i m deciding whether go for Mv or Sv..i heard some bout Mv..toyota engine, spacious than SV(indisputable),but the outlook design of car(i can onli rate it 50points)..well jus now i have had a look at the proton showroom, when i first look at it,its design really caught me…so stylish n perfect man!!!the cutting absolutely great if compare to MV,especially the back site..MV ios not really that good in design n curving but SV does(perfetz!!!)..i can rate it to 90points..wif Renault D4F engine..superb economy comsumption of fuel compare to MV,n this really a concern for choosing vehicle as rising fuel prices hike..n the suspension is soooo stable n comfortable…jus that it’s too small compare to da spacious MV(haih…)..stil undecided..but if i choose,i wil not look at the design as priority but the performances n comfprtable of ride should come first..stil undecided..but in my opinion,th eprice for SV is jus too high man!!!that’s jus a small compact economy car n i think those CEO targeted this car for teenagers of first plan to own a car of themselves…dun they think this price really unreasonable?i may think for it if they can lower it,RM40k not worthy for a car like tis….sigh….
vanessa – Strange that you think that car looks perfect. If I were to rate Proton Savvy, I’d give it a negative 10 or 20. Juwara rated at negative 100.
VanessaMemphis, why? VanessaMemphis Why??????
What caught me was the back site, center.
Proton still can’t forget the “Spender”
infront of Waja, now they put it in Savvy.
Oh my…. may be there should design a G string type of Thong type…..
Savvy : Sayur savi (in malay)
(in cantonese CHOI SAM)
u know what it means?? when u left it too long in the frez…RUBBISH!
Ai yo yo….
whooo! WHooo! u all sucks! Im malaysian! even if I dont buy a national car i wont fuck it.. Myvii is just a piece of crap from Japan. They just took out the logo of toyota passo n put perodua logo.. same with daihatsu boon… savvy is not bad at all.. still better than myvii./. the only problem is that savvy using renault engine.. that’s is the major problems.. nothing wrong wit the engine.. problem is only japan car have low cost maintenance.. that means, if u want to sell savvy as used car, dont expect u able to get half of the price even if u were only use it for a year
buy euro car.. much.. much.. much… BETTER! both savvy and myvii just a junK! what so great ’bout myvii? cheap car from toyota group.. toyota passo/daihatsu boon/myvii = same! i repeat “same”.. what ever u call it, i cant say that moving BOX is a car.. he way, even toyota is the best seller car all over the world, boon or passo is just for 3rd world country people who dont afford to buy a ‘CAR’.
let buy a CAR! dont buy a junk!
Potong is repeating one mistake to another.
Potong Tiara, Potong Arena, Potong Juara, Potong Gen2, and now Potong Savvy. When do they really learn? Potong CEO have to take the responsible, he is a racing people not a marketing person. How many more years Gov have to pamper them? (Of cause we have to consider for the workers. I suppport you to make the National cars but i don’t support the Potong efforts).
Was Interested to change my Potong Waja (which giving me problem. changing parts like playing lego) to Gen 2, think it should be a better car. My interest soon gone when i sit in the back seats. It hit my head, I am not tall 5ft9in, Inmagine matsaleh??? How Potong car can sell at those countries?? Met one of the so call designer of the Gen2 dsign team, he said look, alfa, porch also design in such way. and he seem proud of it, :) well, sure enough you should be proud, you did something someone can’t, but do consumer really appreciate it?
The savvy teaser ad seem interesting, and eagerly to see how the savvy like, launched and see, same mistake back seat when sited hit my head. Unlike Myvvy, no problem, comfortable and roomy. Agreed Savvy is loooks taugher then Myvy, but Myvy quality is much much better. If not beacuse the Fuckta Potong long gone to be VolksPro.
when they came out with iso 9000 for companies, hospitals and services, l noticed everything was the same
when they mention about tuv,
1) never heard of it here , must be shit, heard of iso 9000, heard of IBM, heard of ferrari but what is tuv?
2) the tuv web site says the proton is still under evaluation for certificate. well u can argue they have not update the site. if that is the case, then they are just as lazy not toupdate their site like proton
3) why not just listen to the customers, fix the problem, train the mechanics properly and stop pretending we are chronic psychos asking for more.
